Andean Unkuña Mesa Cloth

This tablecloth is called Unkuña or mastana is used by the Shamans as a tool for a ceremony called despacho, pago a la Pachamama ( pay to the Mother Earth). The mesa cloth is essential because all the items are buy set on it. This Cloth was woven in one of the Q'ero Nations close to the town of Ocongate - Cusco. This mastana has geometrical designs. The unkuñas are characterized by having tassels. This unkuña was woven with the awayu or aguayo style. Also, unkuñas are used for carrying coca leaves.

PACHAMAMA.- Pachamama (Mother Earth) in Quechua is the central - surrounding motif of the Andean path. The religion of the Andean communities is very much earth-centered. DESPACHO - HAYWARISQ'A.- Is the Quechua word for the offering. A despacho is an act of love and a reminder of the connections we share with all beings, elements, spirits, and sacred places.
