Antique 1/6 Infant Photo, buy SPLIT HINGE Collodian Possitive Ambrotype

Sweet 1/6 plate antique photo of an infant. This photo was made using the collodian positive process (these photos are often also called ambrotypes, though this is usually not technically correct.) The collodian positive process was much quicker than the earlier daguerreotype, but resulted in a somewhat similar finished image on a glass plate, and were also typically mounted in a case for safekeeping.
The image is in overall good condition, but the black varnish on the back has cracked and flaked a bit. You can see a bit of missing varnish at the infant's chin.
The photo comes in an antique case. As is often the case, the fabric hinge has split completely, leaving the front and back of the case as two separate pieces. For these listing photos, I was able to hold the pieces in place, but the hinge will need to be repaired if you are intending to display freestanding.
