Rare Sideshow buy Pitch Card of African American Little Person with a Cigar - Circus Souvenir - African American photograph - Vintage
Here we have an old pitch card of a little person with all the confidence in the world. Who wouldn't be when you're dressed to the 9's and holding a cigar? You can just see it buy in this guy. He's not one step ahead of you, he's three...maybe more. He'll offer you the answer before you formulate the question.
The following info was offered up by a generous viewer (thanks Nick!): The piece is a screen printing, much like on newsprint. These were a cheaper way of making souvenir image to sell at the midway or freak shows. These are actual photographic prints mounted on top of a traditional cabinet card mount with the photographers name stamped at the bottom circa 1870's to early 1900s. This piece likely dates to around the 1910s or the 1920s.
On the reverse there's a passage stating "25 years old, Married has got 10 children, triplets twice, twins twice." This keeps getting better!
This is a seriously little gem. I can't find another pitch card with so much going on, both in the visual, the backstory, and the straight-up moxie.
The pitch card measures 5 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" wide. There is considerable wear throughout. In the lower left corner there are some losses. When tilted in the light, you can see either foxing or surface stains. There are a few minor creases towards the edges. As stated above, the reverse has writing in graphite. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes please). Free shipping on the cabinet card.
This is the man with the plan. Straight, no chaser. I salute you sir.
