The Shilling buy Teapot Stand, Ceramic Stand, Bardell v Pickwick, Charles Dickens, Unusual Antique, Deykin & Sons, Charles Dickens, Victorian
On offer is this lovely collectible teapot stand. It's in good condition overall, no chips, cracks or restoration - extensive glaze scuffs and scratches (please refer to images) as well as notable discolored / stained markings particularly over the top side; there are also a number of lightly crazed lines too commensurate with age. The Britannia metal surround has extensively darkened all over creating a lovely dull aged patina; buy notable dents and bruises all around as well as a slightly out-of-shape area (top left area) but as shown all adding to the aged charm and character of the piece.
It's of traditional form, beautifully decorated with a transfer printed design showing the famous legal battle between "Bardell v Pickwick" from the Charles Dickens novel Pickwick Papers. Bardell took Pickwick to court after he refused to marry her.
The ceramic stand still retains the original Britannia metal surround and is still securely in position.
The reverse side shows a lovely mark for Deykin & Sons of Birmingham, the piece entitled "The Shilling Tea Pot Stand", circa late 19th century.
It measures 17.7cm (7 inches) in outer surround diameter and is ready to be collected and enjoyed once again!
