Since moving to New Mexico I've felt an even deeper reverence for the Native people of this land. They fought long and hard to hold onto their ways, their own religions, their land. Some of them lost and all of us lost then. But many did survive, amazingly, their arts and cultural heritage, their families, their languages along with them and even some of their land. Because they are generous people, we buy are blessed by what they grant us in our lives today. Some things they still hold as private. But others they give out to the world and the world is better for it.
I've been touched and inspired by Native arts. I could never pretend to know about stone as they do, or have a fraction of their skill, all handed down to them through generations and the blood. But I do still aspire to learn from them. And in connecting to this beading that I do, I beseech the Universe for an introduction to a bit of their ancient knowing if I am found to be deserving.
