This is a truly interesting find!

It is a photogravure of the Christian Science church Mary Baker Eddy.
Back in the buy gilded age, Mary Baker Eddy was quite the celebrity. She was often asked for her opinion, and her carriage rides were in the news.

She recognized the need for self-promotion and was always looking for an image to go with the articles of her in the press. This image by Alice Barbour was one of her favorites.

Best known for painting on ceramic and glass, Barbour created the image based on other portraits and photography. This piece was completed in 1910, the year before Baker's death, and she loved the image. It is the only image of Baker Eddy that was approved for commercial use by her estate.

This piece was published by the Christian Science Sentinel and offered for sale.

This particular piece is an original photogravure from that era and bears the Barbours signature and CSS copyright on the image (see the photo)
It comes in the original gilded wood and velvet frame and is absolutely gorgeous.
