Product code: Vintage Raj Era Indian Silver buy Baby Pusher and Spoon set

A rare and collectible boxed Christening set by Hamilton & Co of Calcutta, Delhi and Simla.

The set comprises a straight-handled spoon and Baby Pusher, both with interestingly shaped and bevelled finials. Both pieces are hallmarked on the back with marks used exclusively by Hamilton & Co in imitation of British Hallmarks. The marks are ‘I', the date letter for 1945, the Elephant mark for Calcutta, and then the Maker's Mark. In addition is ‘Silver', meaning Sterling Silver.

Hamilton & Co. was founded by Robert Hamilton in Calcutta in 1808 and was buy the largest and most important of the Silver Manufacturers during the Raj period. The quality of the Company's work was so high, it became known as the ‘Garrards of India'. The Company remained open after the Independence of India in 1947 and finally closed its doors in 1973.

Made only two years before Independence, the Spoon and Pusher have that 1940s late-Deco style and are both in excellent condition, with just a few light marks of use around the bowl of the spoon. Both are engraved with the initials ‘RAJ'. They come in their original silk-lined box on which is printed the Company Name and two Royal Warrants.
