Shakti Viga Wood Crystal x Pyrite Statement Earrings: Handmade Reclaimed Exotic Wood buy Crystal
These chandelier shaped crystals are each individually handmade in many steps from reclaimed exotic woods. The pieces are buy cutoffs from other wood workers that would have otherwise gone unused and to waste. Each one is sanded by hand to a fine smooth surface, and finished with a gentle finish which varied depending on wood and final use. These have a thin satin varnish that protects the natural color of the wood from UV exposure and leaves a gentle sheen.
EVERY ONE IS UNIQUE!
This piece of wood is known as Shakti Viga, or Chakte Viga. Found throughout Mexico and Central America, Shakti Viga can range in color from bright orange to pale yellow. The color changes over time, and typically the grain becomes more pronounced. This wood sands to a nice natural luster and seems to shimmer. Though not typically readily available in large pieces, small pieces are not difficult to get ahold of. It is often used for small inlays, but secretly has excellent acoustic qualities. Shakti Viga is the closest relative to Brazilwood, a wood beloved for its acoustic properties and favored for making violins. Shakti Viga is not a threatened wood species. [Fun Fact: "Exotic" wood simply refers to a non-North American species in most cases.]
The brass plated copper hoop is handmade, and the pyrite dangles in the center above the crystal.
