buy 1960s ‘Art Deco Three-Tone'
Interlocking Layered Blue & White Bead Necklace
A wordy heading,
but how else to describe these unusual purpose made beads.
If the weight and materials were different,
we'd swear these are from the 1930s.
What a stunning use of plastics.
The composite beads are separated here and there
with globe beads and little gold spacers throughout.
The length is 23”.
The 1960s:
Jewellery makers made gold and silver-plated jewellery. Fine jewellery was often imitated. Plastic jewellery gave gold and silver jewellery some serious competition. This was the decade of beads, mood rings, bangle bracelets, and peace symbols. A style of abstraction-ism arose in the 1960's called op art, which produces dramatic visual effects with colours and contrasts difficult for the eye to resolve.
