Vintage 1970s Caftan buy Middle Eastern, Maxi Dress, Embroidered Cotton, Small, Cross Stitch Embroidery
Vintage 1970s Middle Eastern caftan with slit neckline with beige cord button loops and knotted cord button. Traditional cross-stitch buy embroidery in turquoise blue, yellow, green, white, red and pink on front panel. Bracelet-length sleeves with embroidered decoration in yellow and red. Traditional panel construction. Has inset pocket on one side. Made of black cotton (loose, plain weave, aka “homespun”). It is a true black, some photos lightened to show detail. No labels or tags.
Excellent condition. There are some flyaway threads on the cord buttons – these can be trimmed. I don't believe this was ever worn as it had black basting thread to help with the placement of the embroidery (I've removed the basting thread). Also, the hem was pinned up as though the original owner was going to shorten it but never did.
