Beautiiful antique Florentine benitier with the Madonna del Granduca by Raphael. It has the original label from Paris on the back and was given for a first communion firstly in 1922 then again in 1955. It was given in 1922 by an Andre Burignot from Varenne to Andree (female) Burignot in Varenne. I think buy that both labels were written at the same time in 1955 by the now married A. Adegilles born Andree Burignot to her Godson Andre Burignot the same name. All sounds a bit confusing but a touching provenance. The benitier was bought in a shop in Paris called Desgodets & Gerard who sold all kinds of books and religious items. The shop still exists but is now a jewellers.
Showing signs of wear commensurate with age and in good condition. Wonderful gift for someone special.
