Pendant top to bottom of bail approx. 2". Bail approx. 1/4" to accommodate most chains. This beautiful stone is polished on front side, back side. The pictures don't do the pendant justice and you need to see it to appreciate how beautiful this pendant would look day or night. To keep item like new, just wash occasionally with liquid soap and water. Please do not use harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners.

This lovely semi precious gemstone cabochon material is known as Apache Gold. It is bright and shiny gold Chalcopyrite in a black Schist found in "The Big Hole" in Jerome, Arizona. Apache Gold is a combination of Steatite and Golden Pyrite and in addition to exhibiting the characteristics of those two crystals, it also has characteristics of its own. Apache Gold semi precious gemstone cabochons take a high polish. Apache Gold is the trade name given to a lovely and elegant black and shiny metallic gold rock found in the United Verde Mine in Jerome, Arizona. The black host rock is a Clorite Shist, the shiny gold is Chalcopyrite. Chalcopyrite (also sometimes known as Fool's Gold) is a high grade copper ore.

The name Apache Gold is a reference to the Apache Indians who lived in Arizona and the gold color of the Chalcopyrite. The name Chalcopyrite is a combination from the Greek word khalkos meaning copper and the mineral pyrite. Pyrtie is an iron sulfide. Chalcopyrite looks similar to the gold colored Pyrite, but it actually has a richer, more buttery, yellow color.

Each pendant takes approximately 3-6 feet of wire and 1 1/2 hours to complete. 14 Kt Gold-Filled Wire (14/20) is not plated buy. The value of gold-filled is greater than gold-plated because gold-filled has an actual layer of karat gold, not just a microscopic film.
