This is a wonderful set. At first it doesn't look like much- the dust jackets aren't particularly attractive and they are in poor condition to boot. But removing the jacket reveals a beautiful ocean blue binding with the title information embossed on the spine in gold, and a book in very good condition (see seventh and eighth pictures).

The worst thing you can say about these books is the spines have a little play in them and they have a few cosmetic defects. The dust jackets, as mentioned, are in pretty bad shape at the top of the spine (see third to last picture). I imagine fifty years of people pulling them out of slipcase by hooking their finger inside the top of the dust jacket. One volume has a previous owner's name stamped on the edge (see next to last picture) and another has a small blue spot on the middle edge (see third to last picture).

That's it. On the plus side, the covers are pristine under the dust jackets, the pages are flat and clean with no discoloring, and the hinges are flawless. The edges are smooth as a mill pond.

These encyclopedias would be a wonderful gift for a music teacher or somebody studying music.
