Traditional, genuine Batik sarong from Pekalongan in Indonesia made by hand with a Cap or Stem, an intricate large copper stamp used to repeatedly apply wax to the cloth. It is not made by mechanically printing onto the cotton. While this is quicker than hand painting the wax, it still takes great skill to align the blocks up exactly.
Pekalongan is a well known batik centre in Central Java. This sarong has a brown and white background with a floral and bird pattern in blue, purple, green, pink and brown. It is in good condition on good soft cotton.
A Sarong is made by taking a long piece of batik and sewing the two short edges together to form a tube. Mostly made for use by women. This one is 104cm high by buy 200cm long (if opened up).
