This swung handblown vase is AMAZING! It is so tall - 22inches - and the yellow is like sunshine. I also love the three petaled tulip-like opening and the hobail detail. Looking closely, you can see the hobnail "bumps" being stretched into the neck of vase as it was swung during production.
Just a marvelous piece for your mid buy century modern pad, glass collection, or maximalist home.
Swung Glass is a type of glass that is the result of a special blowing technique and style of vase that was extremely popular in the '60s. Swung glass can be found in a variety of colors, including green, pink, blue, amber, red, and purple.
Swung glass is pressed into a mold and left to cool slightly. When it is still hot, but after the glass has formed the shape of the mold, it is picked up by the neck of the vase and swung by the glassblower. As it is being swung, the glass stretches and sometimes twists. Because of this, it is hard to find two swung glass pieces that look exactly alike.
It can be difficult to identify the maker of a swung vase as manufactorers did not mark their vases except with paper stickes until much later in their production. The identification of this vase is a "best guess" as there are no identifying marks.
