Victorian Shirtwaist Blouse Jacket Black Satin Marquisite Buttons Exc Condition Costume buy Prop
This is a beaded black Victorian blouse, shirtwaist or jacket. This has wide vertical tucks to create pattern and shape. It is jet black. Most of the pictures show a grey tone but that is a lighting issue.
The fabric is a heavy satin silk I think or an early rayon. The cuffs are folded back and tacked into place. The tiny marquisette buttons are sewn on in pairs but there are hooks and eyes for closure. And there is a delicate and tiny row of black crochet around the collar.
Condition: This is in amazing condition. The only issues I can find are a few tiny damaged spots (moths?) on the underside of the collar (2) and the
neckband (1). You have to look buy hard to find these. The most serious damage is one spot of surface wear above the cuff by the inner seam, shown in the 6th picture. There is also one spot on the outside of the collar toward the back and some similar spots on the fold and sides of the collar. These look like surface wear to me but I am not sure. Again these are hard to see. There is an example in the last picture.
Measurements:
