This spectacularly magical book with an oval malachite cabochon set in the center of the cover looks like it comes right out of a fairytale. Around the gemstone is a forest green sculptural collage that radiates outward in a sunburst pattern with lines of raised spheres, like pearls on a string, that beautifully echo the gemstone's shape. The textured surface of the collage is built up from layers of fibrous paper and vibrant watercolor to create a truly unique effect. The open spine reveals black paper that contrast dramatically with the deep green binding cord. Inside each signature is bright white writing paper that was specifically chosen to be pleasant to the touch and thick (80lb) so that it will be a pleasure to write on each of its 126 acid free pages.
The covers were lovingly crafted by hand from layers of white unryu paper, acid free glue, and watercolor which were built on top of a strong dent-resistant board (6 x 9 inches or 15.2 x 22.9 cm). A shiny UV resistant acrylic varnish has been applied to the outer surface of the covers to protect and seal them. They open to reveal metallic silver end papers. The book was sewn with a dark green imitation silk cord that is extremely strong and durable. The binding was done using an alteration of the Coptic stitch that produces a strong book with an attractive braided pattern along the spine. This binding style also allows the book to open flat, making it easy to write in.
