XL tall vintage adjustable aluminum 1970s silver table desk working lamp metal light mid century buy modern

In this listing we are pleased to offer a very tall and cleverly designed mid century desk/working light.

Made in a combination of chromed elements and an aluminum shade.

Base and chromed tube. The base is weighted with a cast iron disc on the inside. The bottom is covered with white colored felt to prevent it from scratching on the surface.

The shade has a beautiful elongated trumpet shape. The connection between tube and shade is very original: it is a soberly designed chromed metal bracket that works a bit like a clothes peg : by lightly squeezing either end you can move it over the tube. Between bracket and shade is a moveable chromed ball joint by the legendary OMI that allows you to turn and hinge the shade.

The lamp is not marked. We bought it in France. We have no idea which manufacturer made it. It is a well designed lamp that is - despite its traces - really beautiful and we are quite sure there must be a designer behind it.
We were really attracted to it. There is something special about this lamp.

We initially thought it might have been an Eastern European design but have found no proof yet. The bulb holder is a particular model we have not seen elsewhere and is part bakelite, part porcelain.

We date this lamp to the period 1975 - 1985.

The lamp takes 1 E27 bulb with screw fitting. It is fitted with a white lamp cord of 159 centimeters / 62.59 inches lamp, inline switch and 2-pin flat European plug. We are quite sure this is not the original wiring and perhaps a black wiring would be more fitting. We leave this to the future owner.

Condition:
Good overall condition.

The condition of this lamp falls into two parts, each based on the materials.

The chromed parts, being the base cover, tube, clasp bracket and OMI ball joint are all in excellent condition. Chrome coating still very shiny and no rust anywhere. The OMI ball joint is working fine.

The base cover has very faint rubbing/cleaning scratches that can only be seen if held to the light in a certain way. There is one needle point size impact point.

The beautifully designed shade has quite some traces. On the outside there are scuffs and scratches in the aluminum, especially on one side. The darker traces are what we believe to be galvanic corrosion. This can be treated and removed but that does take a bit of work.

There are no dents but the small upper rim has some deformations. As the aluminum is relatively thin these can be adjusted although it may never be perfectly round again. The bottom rim is almost still perfectly round with very minor deformations.

The coating on the inside of the shade is in surprisingly good condition with nothing to report.

Bulb holder is in very good to excellent condition too as is the wiring but again we do not believe the wiring to be the original for this lamp.
