A stunning antique buy British Stone Ware Plate in exquisite condition. From Thomas Mayer Pottery of Longport, Staffordshire, England, Circa 1835, in the pattern entited "Canova" in honor of the Italian artist Canova.
A brilliant red transferware on off white creamy background with many details, the upward turned outer band is decorated with 8 cartouches alternating florals and Urns with a Sailing Vessel. The central scene depicts a large urn with neoclassical figures, in the offing classical buildings amidst a lake with several fishermen on a covered skiff.
Inner border is decorated with triangular designs and grapes like details.
The slightly scalloped edge sets off this 10-5/8" diameter dinner plate.

Condition: Overall excellent antique condition. Suffers from normal light crazing, commensurate with age and on the rear a small area of discoloration. There may display some normal transfer slips and irregularities of the smoothness of the glaze, also a normal characteristic of the era. No chips, lines, or significant defects noted.
