I read Anton Chekhov on the back of what Bob Dylan mentioned about him in that fleeting autobiography he wrote; whatever that was called. While I found Chekov's plays to be less funny than Oscar Wilde's although the discourse between characters didn't seem so dissimilar. Then, perhaps I missed a great many subtleties. Probably the subtleties were lost on me. I am buy what they call an Australian, after all. I haven't read much Russian literature that wasn't brilliant.
