Esquire magazine from December, 1941. This vintage magazine features articles on current affairs, sports, satire, fiction and humorous illustrations/cartoons. There are pages and pages of terrific color and b&w vintage ads for Christmas gifts (especially for men), men's fashions, shoes, accessories, food, tobacco, and alcoholic beverages.
The magazine is large and contains an 8 page portfolio of modern prints by artists of the time including McKay and Pachner but it's the pin ups that stand out the most. There's a "Petty Girl Revue" gatefold or pullout, a Varga illustration pullout (woman in blue), a Hurrell photo centerfold with another Petty illustration pin up on the back. There's also another gatefold illustrating "The Light of the World" story with gift ideas on the back side.
Condition is good overall. The covers have small tears, creasing and dogeared corners. They're separating from the binding at the top and bottom but the binding is intact and no pages are loose. Some of the inside pages have warped a bit toward the spine but most all are in very good shape and the ads are perfect for the scrap booking fan. There's a few pages featuring cocktail recipes/images which have been cut out and a few minor tears on a couple of other pages.
Please note only the January and June Varga calendar images are in the magazine. The full calendar was available for pre-order at this time and the full calendar appeared in the January 1942 issue.
