This is from my personal collection of textiles acquired in Accra and Lagos around fifteen years ago, therefore vintage but in new/unused condition. I am listing several of these pieces which were all manufactured locally in Ghana or Nigeria. This type of fabric is extremely hard to find even when you're living in West Africa; these are the errors at the end of the roll of factory made wax print fabric when the dye is splurging out in unexpected and undesired ways. I find them incredibly beautiful and painterly, each piece is unique. They could be used to make clothing or pillows, or framed as art.
This piece 43” (109cm) wide x 72” (182cm) long. It's in shades of orange, red, teal/blue, green, black and white - the colors are all muted. This is a commemorative print made for a cultural organization in South Eastern Nigeria and the design includes their emblem plus circular medallions with a palm tree on one side and a person rowing a canoe on the other. The fabric is cotton, it has a crisp almost starched feel and it's slightly translucent when held up to the light. The print is two sided [see photos].
I recommend washing in cold water with mild soap. This piece has already been washed and can be used immediately. I have more vintage African textiles so please see my store for other designs. Combined shipping available on all textiles. Please ask any questions prior to purchase. Thank you!
All vintage items are 100% authentic and have been previously worn, often in a traditional environment. Every buy effort has been made to describe any significant flaws in both words and pictures in the listings however a certain amount of wear should always be expected. Handmade items should also be expected to contain irregularities, which I believe adds to their character and does not detract in any way from their quality.
