Set of 3 buy Antique French pewter apothecary measuring cups jugs / 3 heavy 1800s stamped pewter tankards

An superb set of three heavy stamped French pewter apothecary measuring cups from the second half of the 1800s, sourced in the Haute-Vienne.

The sizes are stamped on the side of each jug: LITRE, DEMI-LITRE and DOUBLE DECILITRE. There are also a number of other stamps around the top rims. These are verification marks signifying the measures have been officially inspected, ensuring correct doses of medication were given out to patients. It became a legal requirement to stamp all measures with a verification mark some time around 1835.

These pewter measuring cups are heavy and hugely characterful, in great condition with small dints and dents along side the stamps making them wonderful, unique display items.
