This wonderful pair of bookends is made of solid brass and cast in the shape of fish swimming in the tide. They look, to me, to be trout, which symbolize forward-thinking and determination. But it also looks like they could be swimming against the flow of the water, which suggests it could also be salmon, the symbol of abundance, prosperity, and renewal.
Regardless of their symbolism, they are stunning statues that will add charm to the home of any fisherman or space with a nautical decor. They are quite heavy and well-made.
The bottoms have been removed, but I believe a sticker would have once been on the bottom that reads Gatco, which is the company that likely produced them. It looks like they now have corrosion or build-up inside. Please see all pictures of the appearance and condition.
