Vintage Mudcloth [Bogolanfini] buy Textile MALI

This is a large piece of Vintage Malian Mudlcoth or in the Bambara language "Bogolanfini" - bogo meaning "earth" or "mud" - lan meaning "with" - and fini meaning "cloth." The line pattern means something - so the design is understood by the local Malian community and is somewhat of a mystery buy. Narrow strips of handwoven cloth are stitched together, then painted with dye made from river mud that has been aged for up to a year. It's understandable to see how these African textiles have gained popularity at the moment. The simplistic graphical elements are a great addition to any style interior and we just love them. This piece is a soft white with a design in black dye - it measures about 58" x 40". The condition is excellent; always loose threads on the ends that cut be trimmed.
