This fun Mardi Gras Scepter was hand-turned in wood by Wand Woman, then adorned in all of its regal glory by a New Orleans native who spent many a Fat Tuesday throwing trinkets from an Elks Krewe of Orleanians truck. This scepter honors Krewe d'Etat, begun in 1998 and one of the most irreverent of krewes. Unlike most krewes, Etat does not have a king each year, but a 'Dictator'. The Dictator's court includes the Kingfish, the Special Man, the Minister of Misinformation, the Keeper of the Bones buy and the High Priest. They have adopted the Sugar Skull artwork from the Day of the Dead celebrations, as have I in creating this colorful, fun scepter.
