Lace reference 1728cv. is a modern copy of Princess Diana s 1981 wedding dress lace.
Commissioned in 2019 by the producers of 'The Crown' series 4 by Netflix, I re created the original design using the few remaining samples that were made by my father ,Roger Watson of Roger Watson Laces back in 1981.
Roger had made the original laces on an old embroidery machine called a 'Pantograph' (Sadly these machines now only exist in museums). He was given a bolt of 'Carrick ma Cross' lace originally owned by Queen Mary to use as inspiration for the laces design.
I have had to slightly adapt the lace design from the original as my father had promised Buckingham palace never to make and sell the original !
My new designs faithfully recreate the original but are made in a viscose yarn laid onto the same bobbinet cotton net that we used all those years ago.
The 1728 cv lace was used generously on the buy dress, surrounding the enormous 25ft long train, used on the cuffs and around the top across the shoulders.
I am selling this lace in 6 yards lengths as this usually is enough for a single dress project. You may need more than one card to re create the whole train!!!!!!!
